Privacy Policy
Calculators run in your browser; entered numbers are never sent to a server. We keep only aggregate traffic counts.
Calculators and local storage
Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type, such as position size or leverage, are processed by JavaScript on your device and are never sent to our server or any third party. We cannot see what you calculate, and we do not log it.
Local storage is used only to remember your own preferences, such as the last instrument or dark mode setting. That data stays on your device and is never transmitted. Clearing your browser storage removes it completely.
Traffic data
We collect only aggregate traffic counts, such as the number of visits to a page or the country of origin at a coarse level. This data does not include your name, email, or any calculator input. We use it to know which articles are useful and which need updating.
We do not use tracking pixels or sell any data. There is no advertising network on this site except the affiliate links to brokers, and those links do not carry any personal information from us.
Broker cookies
When you click an affiliate link to a broker such as FxPro, you leave South Cross FX and land on the broker's own website. That broker may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy. We have no control over those cookies and cannot see what they collect.
We recommend reading the broker's privacy policy before opening an account. Our responsibility ends at the click; everything after that is between you and the broker, including any data collection, account terms, and fund handling.
What this site stores and what it does not
South Cross FX stores only the minimum technical data needed for the calculators to work, and none of that data is kept on our servers. The position size, margin, and profit calculators run entirely in your browser using local storage, so the numbers you type stay on your device and disappear when you clear your browser data. We do not collect or store your name, email address, trading account details, or any information that could identify you personally.
The site does not use forms, login areas, or comment sections, so there is no database of reader information. Any preferences you set in the calculators, such as account currency or leverage, are saved in your browser's local storage for convenience only. You can remove them at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings, and no copy of that data is transmitted to us or to any third party.
Because nothing is stored on our servers, there is no user account to delete and no personal data to export. The only records we might see are anonymised traffic logs, which are described separately. If you use affiliate links to visit a broker, the broker may collect its own data under its privacy policy, but that data is not shared with South Cross FX.
Cookies and what each kind is for
This site uses only two kinds of cookies, and neither is used to identify you personally. Necessary cookies are set by the calculator tool to remember your inputs between page reloads, so you do not have to re-enter your lot size or leverage every time. These cookies are essential for the calculators to function and are stored locally in your browser, not on our servers.
Analytics cookies are used to measure how many people visit the site and which pages they read. We use a privacy-focused analytics tool that anonymises your IP address before it is stored, so the data cannot be traced back to you. These cookies help us understand which calculators are most useful, but they do not track you across other websites or build a profile of your browsing habits.
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies on this site. The broker links on this page may set their own cookies when you click through to their websites, and those cookies are governed by the broker's privacy policy. You can block or delete any cookie through your browser settings, and the calculators will still work, though you may need to re-enter your inputs each visit.
Affiliate tracking stated plainly
Some links to brokers on this site are affiliate links, which means if you open an account through one, we may receive a commission from the broker. This does not change the price you pay or the trading conditions you receive, and it does not affect the content on this page. We only link to brokers we have reviewed, and the calculators and guides are written independently of any affiliate arrangement.
The affiliate tracking is done through a simple link parameter that tells the broker you came from South Cross FX. We do not use cookies or any other technology to track your activity after you leave this site. The broker may use its own cookies to attribute the referral, but that data is handled under the broker's privacy policy, not ours.
We do not receive any personal information about you from the broker, such as your name, email, or trading activity. The commission is typically a one-time or ongoing payment based on your trading volume, but the exact terms vary by broker. You can avoid affiliate links by typing the broker's URL directly into your browser, though the calculators and content remain free either way.
Third parties involved in this site
The only third parties that receive data from this site are the analytics provider and the brokers you choose to click through to. The analytics provider processes anonymised traffic data under a data processing agreement that prohibits it from using the data for its own purposes. The brokers receive a referral notice if you use an affiliate link, but they do not receive any information about your use of the calculators.
This site uses a content delivery network and web hosting provider, which may see your IP address and browser type as part of normal website delivery. These providers are bound by contract to keep that data secure and not to use it for any other purpose. We do not embed social media widgets, advertising networks, or any other third-party scripts that could track you across the web.
If you are in Australia and open an account with a broker linked from this site, that broker is likely licensed by the FCA or CySEC, not ASIC. This means your personal data may be stored outside Australia, and the broker's privacy policy will explain how it handles your information. We recommend reading that policy before funding an account, as we have no control over the broker's data practices.
Your rights and how to use them
Because this site does not collect personal data, most privacy rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the GDPR do not apply to South Cross FX. You have the right to access, correct, or delete any data stored in your browser by clearing your cookies and site data, which you can do at any time in your browser settings. This removes all calculator preferences and analytics cookies from your device.
If you interact with a broker through this site, your rights regarding that data are governed by the broker's privacy policy and the laws of the broker's jurisdiction. For example, a broker licensed by the FCA must comply with UK GDPR, which gives you rights to access, rectify, and erase your personal data. You can contact the broker directly using the details in its privacy policy to exercise these rights.
For any questions about this site's privacy practices, you can contact us using the details on the contact page. We will respond within 30 days and will not ask you to provide identification unless it is necessary to verify a request. If you believe a broker has mishandled your data, you can complain to the relevant regulator, such as the FCA in the UK or the CySEC in Cyprus.
The rights a reader has and how to use them
Because South Cross FX does not hold any personal information about you, there is nothing to request under the Australian Privacy Principles in most cases. If you believe the site has collected data through a form or a cookie that identifies you, you can ask for access or correction by emailing the address in the site footer, and a response will be provided within 30 days. The request should include the specific page you visited and the date, because the site has no user database to search. Since no personal data is stored on South Cross FX servers, the likely answer is that no such data exists.
For any data held by third parties, such as the affiliate broker or the analytics provider, you must contact those parties directly. FxPro has a data protection officer reachable through its website, and you can ask for a copy of the personal data it holds, request correction, or ask for deletion where the law allows. The analytics provider, if used, allows you to opt out of its cookies via a browser add-on or the cookie settings on this site. Clearing your browser cookies and local storage will remove all tracking identifiers placed by South Cross FX and its partners up to that moment.
If you are in Australia, you have the right to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you think a privacy breach has occurred, but that right applies to entities bound by the Privacy Act. South Cross FX is a small, information-only site and may be exempt from some APP obligations because it does not collect personal information and has a turnover below the threshold. The practical route is to use the contact email on this site first, and a response will explain what data, if any, was processed and by whom.
How long anything is kept and what deletes it
South Cross FX itself keeps nothing on its own servers that can be tied to an individual visitor, so there is no retention period for personal data. The local storage used by the calculators remains on your device until you clear your browser data or the site code explicitly removes it. This local storage does not have an automatic expiry date, but it is overwritten each time you use the same calculator with new values. If you never clear your browser, the last set of calculator inputs could remain indefinitely, but they are visible only on that specific device and browser profile.
Third-party cookies have their own expiry periods set by the third party. An affiliate cookie from FxPro typically lasts 30 days from the last click, meaning if you click a broker link on 1 January and do not open an account by 31 January, the cookie expires and no commission can be attributed. Analytics cookies from Google Analytics usually expire after two years for the main visitor identifier, but the IP anonymisation means the stored data is not linked to a person. You can delete these cookies at any time through your browser’s “clear browsing data” function, which removes them instantly.
Server logs at the web host, which contain IP addresses and timestamps, are retained for a maximum of 30 days for security and debugging, then automatically overwritten. These logs are not used for analytics or marketing, and they are not shared with South Cross FX except in aggregate form. If you want to ensure nothing persists after your visit, use a private browsing window, which automatically deletes all cookies and local storage when the window is closed. There is no account deletion process because there are no accounts, and no data can be “recovered” after you clear your browser.
What the calculators do with the numbers typed into them
The margin and pip calculators on South Cross FX run entirely in your browser using JavaScript, and the numbers you type are never sent to a server. For example, if you enter a gold position size of 0.10 lots at a price of 4275.0 with the maximum leverage available in Australia of 1:200, the calculator computes the required margin of about A$85.50 on your device and displays the result instantly. No network request is made during the calculation, which you can verify by using your browser’s developer tools to watch the network tab while typing.
The inputs are stored in your browser’s local storage only to refill the fields the next time you visit, and this storage is keyed to the specific calculator. If you type a different value, the old value is overwritten, and only the most recent set of inputs is kept. The local storage does not include any identifying information, so even if someone else uses the same browser, they would see only the numbers, not who entered them. You can prevent this storage by using a private window or by disabling local storage in your browser, though the calculator will still work for that session.
No analytics or affiliate tracking code reads the calculator inputs, and the values are not used to personalise content or advertisements. The site’s analytics provider, if present, records only that the calculator page was viewed, not the numbers you typed. Because the calculation is done locally, the site works offline once the page is loaded, and closing the tab immediately discards any unsaved inputs. This design means your trading assumptions and position sizing remain private to you, with no record on South Cross FX or any third-party server.
What leaves the browser when a broker link is followed
When you click a broker link on South Cross FX, your browser sends a standard HTTP request to the broker’s tracking URL, which includes your IP address, user agent string, and the referring page URL. The broker’s server records this information in its logs and sets a first-party cookie in your browser with a unique identifier for the affiliate program. This cookie does not contain your name or email, but it allows the broker to match your visit to South Cross FX if you open an account within the cookie window, which is typically 30 days for FxPro.
The link itself includes a query parameter that identifies South Cross FX as the affiliate, such as a short code or campaign ID. This parameter is visible in the address bar after you click, and it does not change the broker’s page content or pricing. Your browser also sends the referrer header, which tells the broker you came from southcrossfx.com.au, but this can be disabled by setting your browser to not send referrer information. No data from the calculator or any other part of the site is included in the link, and the broker cannot see what you typed elsewhere on South Cross FX.
Once you are on the broker’s site, all further data collection is governed by the broker’s own privacy policy. FxPro, for example, may use additional cookies for session management, fraud prevention, and analytics, and if you register, it will collect personal and financial information as required by its regulators. South Cross FX does not receive any of that information; the only feedback is an aggregate count of clicks and conversions, not individual identities. To avoid any tracking, copy the broker’s plain URL and paste it into a new tab, which breaks the affiliate attribution.
Analytics and what is deliberately not measured
South Cross FX uses analytics, if at all, to count page views and see which articles are most read, but it deliberately does not measure individual behaviour. The analytics configuration disables demographic and interest reports, so no age, gender, or inferred interests are collected. IP addresses are anonymised by removing the last octet before storage, which means the recorded location is only at the city level or broader. The analytics tool does not set a cookie that tracks users across other websites, because the site does not enable advertising features or remarketing.
The site does not measure how long you stay on a page, how far you scroll, or where you move your mouse, because such session replay tools are not installed. No heatmap software is used, and no form analytics is present because there are no forms. The calculators are not instrumented to send their inputs to analytics, so the site cannot know what position size or leverage you tested. The only events recorded, if any, are page load and outbound link clicks, and the outbound clicks are recorded only as a count per link, not per user.
What is deliberately not measured includes your exact location, your IP address in full, your device fingerprint, and any cross-site browsing history. South Cross FX does not use a tag manager that could inject additional tracking without a code change, and no third-party pixels from social networks are present. If you use a browser extension that blocks analytics, the site will not show a notice or limit your access; the page simply loads without incrementing the aggregate counter. This minimal measurement is designed to answer only one question: which pages are useful enough to keep online.
Children and this site
South Cross FX is not directed at children under 18, and the content about leveraged gold trading is intended for adults who can legally enter financial contracts. The site does not knowingly collect any personal information from children because it does not collect personal information at all, and there are no interactive features that would attract or identify a child. If a parent or guardian believes a child has somehow submitted data through a form or email, they can contact the site and any such data would be deleted, though no such mechanism exists on the current site.
The calculators and articles do not require age verification, so a child could technically read about margin and pips, but the site does not market to children. No games, quizzes, or rewards are used, and the language assumes a baseline understanding of trading. Australian law does not prohibit minors from viewing financial information, but contracts for difference and margin trading are only available to persons 18 or older at regulated brokers like FxPro. The site includes risk warnings on every trading page, and these are written for adults making decisions with their own money.
Because the site does not use advertising that targets children and does not have a social media presence that engages minors, there is no specific children’s privacy notice required under the Privacy Act or the GDPR. If you are under 18, you should not use this site to make trading decisions, and you should not provide any personal information to any broker linked from here. Parents who want to block the site can use parental control software or a DNS filter, but the site itself cannot identify age and will not ask for it.
How a change to this policy is announced
South Cross FX will announce any material change to this privacy policy by updating the text on this page and changing the “last updated” date at the top. There is no email list, so no notification will be sent to readers, and no pop-up banner will interrupt the site. The change takes effect as soon as the new text is published, and the previous version is not archived publicly. If you want to track changes, you can check this page periodically or use a web page monitoring service that alerts you to text differences.
A change is considered material if it affects the type of data collected, the third parties involved, or the retention period. For example, if South Cross FX were to add a contact form, that would be a material change and would be announced by a notice on the homepage for 30 days in addition to the policy update. If a new analytics provider is introduced, the policy will name that provider and explain its data use before the script is deployed. Minor wording fixes or typo corrections are not announced separately.
If the change relates to affiliate tracking, such as a new broker link or a different cookie duration, the policy will be updated to state the new duration and the broker’s name. The site will not use a “we have updated our policy” email because it has no email addresses, and it will not require you to click “accept” to continue reading. Your continued use of the site after the update is considered acceptance of the new terms, but since no personal data is held, the practical impact on you is limited to the cookies and local storage described above.
